What is a Registered Hearing Aid Practitioner?
A Registered Hearing Aid Practitioner (RHAP) is a regulated hearing care professional in Alberta who tests hearing and selects, fits, programs and services hearing aids. Hearing aid practitioners in Alberta are regulated by the College of Hearing Aid Practitioners of Alberta (CHAPA).
Do I need a referral to see a hearing aid practitioner?
No. You can book a hearing test directly with our practitioners in Edmonton or Calgary. No doctor’s referral is required.
What is the difference between a hearing aid practitioner and an audiologist?
Both are regulated hearing professionals. A hearing aid practitioner focuses on testing hearing and fitting and caring for hearing aids. An audiologist has university training in hearing and balance and assesses more complex hearing and balance problems. Our team includes Registered Hearing Aid Practitioners and a registered audiologist, and we refer you to an ear doctor (ENT) when you need one.
Is a hearing aid practitioner the same as an ear doctor?
No. An ear doctor, or ENT, is a physician who treats medical ear conditions. A hearing aid practitioner tests your hearing and fits hearing aids. If your hearing test shows something that needs medical care, we let you know and suggest you see your family doctor or an ENT.
